Sustainable
Social Justice Practice

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom.

It is our duty to win.

We must love each other and support each other.

We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

― Assata Shakur

Black Lives Matter.

We are not practicing Yoga if we are not practicing Social Justice.
We are not practicing Yoga if we are not consciously unlearning racism.
We are not practicing Yoga if we are not continuously taking action against racism.

Yoga is never the invitation to turn away from the truths that make us uncomfortable, namely: the injustices in the world. Yoga teaches us how to study ourselves and our world with enough compassion to look directly at - and root out - the lies that white supremacy, dominant culture + capitalism have taught us. If we are practicing Yoga, we must acknowledge and uproot racism + uplift Black lives.

In so doing, we learn to see the Truth: Diversity is Divine.
We learn that community is our most radical, relevant and valuable resource.
We need each other and our differences.

This is not an exhaustive list.
The following resources are citations of my teachers and the organizations that have awakened and called me to action. I implore you to look at this page as a jumping-off point.

Let’s continue to pay these teachers and orgs for the work that they do to educate, inspire, and lead us.

Let’s continue to take care of ourselves so that together, we can more fully engage with, take action, donate to + support Anti-Racist, Abolitionist + Social Justice work that began long before we did.

Together, again, let us begin the practice of Yoga.
